Safari Dress

This is such a cool dress. I wish you could feel how awesome the fabric is. Smooth, silky, but not too silky! The only problem is it's too tight, and the length is a bit weird.

Too Tight. Blarg! But, alas, it was only $1.23. I'll make it work!

 I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but I'm trying to suck in as much as possible and still have a nice face..... clearly not working.....

I have this pleathery type vinyl material, and I cut 2 strips about 2 inches wide.
I picked out the side seams and sewed in the strips of material to make the dress a little roomier.
That's really all I did.
 I wasn't sure about this dress, but I think it turned out O.K.
Some leggings, and a cardigan to battle the chill. All set for a day at work!

Boom!

Graduation Gown not just for Graduates Anymore

This discarded, and loved-no-more graduation gown was calling to me from the thrift store rack. It was perfect for this time of year when teachers say goodbye tearfully to some, and not-so-tearfully to others.  But we love them all anyway.  Heeeeey!  Over here!  Buy me and give me a new life!! So I did. Sally liked the dress much better once I picked off those sleeves! She thought it was a perfect resting spot. I chopped the bottom a bit, folded it twice because it was fray-fray-central, and I hemmed it all up.  I could use the chopped off bottom piece as a belt  or use an existing one.  Choices.... The dress is all white so this time, I decided to go with a darker brown belt,  and some metallic sandals. Congrats and good luck  to all the 2015 graduates!  I'm ready for the ceremony! See you next time!

Studio Trashed to Re-Fashed

I am so grateful to have this amazing space in my basement to create, sew, paint, nap ( Ha! Nap! Wishful thinking), whatever my heart desires, but it has become overwhelmed with STUFF!  All stuff I need mind you...but I think it might be time for a studio-refashion! Look at this mess! More mess.   I have a chandelier in my studio,  thanks to my Sister- in-Law and Bro-in-Law  updating their dining room. Recycle all the way baby!   I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of art....there's worse things for sure! My In-Laws had their kitchen upgraded, and they had a few extra cabinets left over.  They are super awesome, and let me have them for my studio! Wahoo! STORAGE!!!!   The hubs and I hung them up over spring break. That was hilarious because neither of us really knew what to do. We did it though! And no fighting believe it or not!  A little rearranging. A bit of organization, and Voila! Still messy, but a hug...

Dr. Seuss 5th Birthday Party

The birthday party.....or should I say,  the birthday part-IES were so much fun!  I start planning my little pumpkin's birthday party well in advance. We're talkin' 4-6 MONTHS in advance. Why do I do this so far ahead of time you ask? Well, I do it because I like to have things planned out so there is no stress involved.  If I can do a little here and a little there, I feel more relaxed, and I can think about choices. Plus, it's fun to do it.  Do you remember  THIS SKIRT  I made for her? And this shirt ...and  THIS SHIRT   for me? I made a shirt for Kenny too! She wore them both to her "friends" party, and again at the "family" party a week later. I had alternating color plates and paper hats for the kids. Pizza and cupcakes. I bought green iced cupcakes from the grocery store, and stuck a paper straw in each, and then covered the top of the straw with cotton candy to mimic a "truffula tree"...
