I've Been Keeping It Real!

Winter is not my favorite season.
I usually want to curl up in a blanket watch movies and eat popcorn.... I still have been doing that, (I make the best popcorn by the way).

I also have accomplished a few things in the past 3 months.

I've also sewn TON!
I'll give you the run-down:

I have spent time with my family

At the beginning of December, I became a Zumba instructor!

Whew! I did it!

I'm working on making some pullovers for my new Zumba side-career...

Oh yeah, one other thing:

I also graduated with my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership!!!!
Yup! 2 years of hard work and we are done!!! Wahoooo!
I wanted to make it special and memorable, so for our last class, I made a dress for myself, matching bow ties for the Gentleman, a pocket square for our instructor, and scarves for the ladies.

It was a great matchy-matchy ending to the past hard working two years!

Now that things have settled down a bit, I anticipate more sewing in my future!

See you next time!

Graduation Gown not just for Graduates Anymore

This discarded, and loved-no-more graduation gown was calling to me from the thrift store rack. It was perfect for this time of year when teachers say goodbye tearfully to some, and not-so-tearfully to others.  But we love them all anyway.  Heeeeey!  Over here!  Buy me and give me a new life!! So I did. Sally liked the dress much better once I picked off those sleeves! She thought it was a perfect resting spot. I chopped the bottom a bit, folded it twice because it was fray-fray-central, and I hemmed it all up.  I could use the chopped off bottom piece as a belt  or use an existing one.  Choices.... The dress is all white so this time, I decided to go with a darker brown belt,  and some metallic sandals. Congrats and good luck  to all the 2015 graduates!  I'm ready for the ceremony! See you next time!

Dia de Los Muer-nksgiving!

Look at this awesome fabric! Check out the website where I bought it  HERE  It's just perfect for a Dia De Los Muertos dress! It's going to be perfect! I'm so glad I bought it in August, so I will have plenty of time to create and wear it before Halloween!  (Can you hear the sarcasm) .....time just slipped away.......  I was still going to make the fabric into dress, because I just loved it so!!!!   I decided to buy a pattern. A real pattern online!  A printable file that I had to put together, and decipher all by myself!  I put my mind to it and decided to go for it! I found one that I liked on www.burdastyle.com  You can check it out  HERE I originally wanted to make it with long sleeves,  but I didn't have enough fabric. Shorties will have to do! I kept putting it on and taking  it off to try to get the best fit. This was a long process. Too big in the shoulders, too long in the torso, a...

Red Romper Red Romper

My beautiful daughter took this picture of this less than beautiful dress. I thrifted it for a few dollars a long while back. I picked apart the skirt andplaced a pants pattern in its place. Picked off the sleeves and cuffs. Whole lotta sleeves! Extra fabric to make a sash belt. I found the center of the cuffs and pinned it for reference. You will see what I do with them! Bias tape around the sleeves and attached the cuffs. Check out the sleeves! Its actually the cuffs! I love my new romper! See you next time!
