One Fish Two Fish


I just go with my gut when picking through items at the thrift store.

I transformed a different FISHY PRINT DRESS a while back, and didn't question my inner voice. 

Samezies with this one.

It was a bit drapey, and not in a good way. 

One fish, two fish
First thing I had to do was take off some of the heaviness at the bottom.

Then I needed to shape the waist. I cut 2 strips of elastic and sewed one in the front, and one in the back. The whole time I was sewing I was pulling the elastic taught so the fabric will gather when it's done.

 Not so pretty pinning....

...But the finished product was great!


I also sewed in some bust darts to give it more shape.

See 'em?

I liked the color and the print, so I decided to leave that part alone.

Kenny and I took the munchkin to day care/camp, and I finished up sewing this dress for our grown-ups only lunch date.

The hubs LOVES BBQ, and we decided to try this 
food truck near by.
It was really good!!!

I am not really a fan of potatoes at all in any form, but I really LOVED their potato salad. This was crazy for me, because potatoes are NOT my jam.

Graduation Gown not just for Graduates Anymore

This discarded, and loved-no-more graduation gown was calling to me from the thrift store rack. It was perfect for this time of year when teachers say goodbye tearfully to some, and not-so-tearfully to others.  But we love them all anyway.  Heeeeey!  Over here!  Buy me and give me a new life!! So I did. Sally liked the dress much better once I picked off those sleeves! She thought it was a perfect resting spot. I chopped the bottom a bit, folded it twice because it was fray-fray-central, and I hemmed it all up.  I could use the chopped off bottom piece as a belt  or use an existing one.  Choices.... The dress is all white so this time, I decided to go with a darker brown belt,  and some metallic sandals. Congrats and good luck  to all the 2015 graduates!  I'm ready for the ceremony! Studio Trashed to Re-Fashed

I am so grateful to have this amazing space in my basement to create, sew, paint, nap ( Ha! Nap! Wishful thinking), whatever my heart desires, but it has become overwhelmed with STUFF!  All stuff I need mind you...but I think it might be time for a studio-refashion! Look at this mess! More mess.   I have a chandelier in my studio,  thanks to my Sister- in-Law and Bro-in-Law  updating their dining room. Recycle all the way baby!   I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of art....there's worse things for sure! My In-Laws had their kitchen upgraded, and they had a few extra cabinets left over.  They are super awesome, and let me have them for my studio! Wahoo! STORAGE!!!!   The hubs and I hung them up over spring break. That was hilarious because neither of us really knew what to do. We did it though! And no fighting believe it or not!  A little rearranging. A bit of organization, and Voila! Still messy, but a hug...

Dr. Seuss 5th Birthday Party

The birthday party.....or should I say,  the birthday part-IES were so much fun!  I start planning my little pumpkin's birthday party well in advance. We're talkin' 4-6 MONTHS in advance. Why do I do this so far ahead of time you ask? Well, I do it because I like to have things planned out so there is no stress involved.  If I can do a little here and a little there, I feel more relaxed, and I can think about choices. Plus, it's fun to do it.  Do you remember  THIS SKIRT  I made for her? And this shirt ...and  THIS SHIRT   for me? I made a shirt for Kenny too! She wore them both to her "friends" party, and again at the "family" party a week later. I had alternating color plates and paper hats for the kids. Pizza and cupcakes. I bought green iced cupcakes from the grocery store, and stuck a paper straw in each, and then covered the top of the straw with cotton candy to mimic a "truffula tree"...
