Did Ya Miss Me?

Did ya miss me??? I have been slacking in the blogging department, but I plan on keeping you updated with all the creations that have been going on this past month. It has been a busy few weeks! My master's classess are in full swing, I flew out to L.A. for my brother's wedding, don't forget about Valentine's day, teaching full time , and being a wife and Momma! WHEW!!! Here's what I have been up to: I'm doing that thing again again! That thing about not purchasing off the rack new clothes! Anything I need or my family needs we will find at the thrift store, or I will make it! There are 2 exceptions: Underwear (because no one wants used undies...ew.) and gifts. I have done well so far, 2 trips to the thrift store since the new year. I have found some great items. like this: I have been hard at work snipping and working on this one.  I hope to show you what I have accomplished soon. I flew out to L.A. for my brother's wedding and I gave m...

Foxy Pajamas!

I bought this great knit fabric from my new favorite knit fabric site,  Girl Charlee . I bought this cute fox fabric thinking I'd make matching t-shirts for me and my little one, or maybe a dress. But something stopped me.....I stared at the fabric for a month or so contemplating my next project. I knew it would come to me eventually, and it did!     I have always wanted to try to make pants with pockets, and I found the best pattern for that from True Bias . I quickly purchased the kid and adult patterns. It was instant gratification because it was a downloadable pattern, and I could get started right away! Snip, Snip! Sew, sew! Ta daaaaa! Look at that pocket detail! I'm quite proud of myself! They looked so comfy and on trend.  I decided that putting in the draw string waist was not necessary for Olivia's pants.  I opted for just an elastic waist. I'm so proud of those pockets!! They look...

Polka Dot Frumpy to Fab!

Here is a fun polka dot dress I found thrifting.  It was super frumpy but I knew I could change that! It came with some heavily sewn in shoulder pads. These shoulder pads are sewn in there tight!  Time to get the seam ripper! Buh Bye! The sleeves were too long and needed a trim. So was the bottom length. That got a chop too! I used my pinking roller to avoid fraying. Snip!....I mean...roll... I thought I'd try a little bias tape to fancy it up a bit. I sewed the sleeves and bottom hem  with the bias tape, like a sandwich.  I'm pretty sure that's not how you do it buuutttt,  I did it anyway.  It was not a super difficult refashion,  but it made a big difference. I was trying to get good lighting outside,  but it was FREEZING!!! I wanted to show you the sleeves but,  OH MY IT WAS COLD!! OK!!!! Quick take the picture!!! SOOOOO COLD!!!! Now, That looks a litt...

Winter White Dress

I found this tablecloth at the thrift store for $2.99. You cant buy that kind of lace yardage for that!  It had a slight stretch to it too! What a score! I had this off white very thin sweatshirt material  I purchased from an estate sale for $2.00. I traced a t-shirt pattern and extended it  to create an A line dress. I cut the tablecloth in the same shape,  but I made it slightly larger. Sally the cat could not get enough! She loved it just the way it was. I sandwiched the two pieces of lace  between the off white fabric,  pinned and stitched all four layers together. I sewed the sides of the knit separately from the lace. The only place the two layers were attached were the shoulders and the neck. I stitched the neck together with a  tightly spaced zig-zag stitch.  Aside from the shoulders and neck,  I sewed and treated them as separate  dresses when I hemmed it...

Button Bunny Plushie

On my daughter's holiday gift list, she put down "Button Bunny"...well actually it said "butin buny." I had absolutely no idea what that was,  but I was willing to give it a try.  I had some of this colorful plaid and fuzzy-minky fur in my fabric stash that would be perfect for a stuffed animal. I made my girl a bear last year,  but it looked more like a baby seal .  She still sleeps with it every night though!!! I vowed to make the body better on any other plushie I make.  This one was most definitely shaped better. Gingerbread man??? Starfish??? I cut 2 body shapes, 1 neck tie fabric, and 2 fur ear shapes and 2 plaid ear shapes. I sewed  both of the fur and plaid ear shapes RSF, and turned them right side out like so. I left the bottom of the ear open, so I could easily turn it right side out. Then I pinned the ears sandwiched between  the body pieces RSF. I sewed up the edges of the body. Makin...
